Suzanne Lieuwen, LMSW
Thanks for visiting my website! I am a psychotherapist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LMSW). I earned my BA from Calvin University and my MSW/MPH from University of Michigan. Over the years, I have worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings and now enjoy helping children, teens, adults, and families navigate life’s challenges in private practice.
I am a play therapist and especially enjoy working with children experiencing anxiety, anger, emotional dysregulation, and the effects of traumatic experiences. I also work closely with parents, offering support, insight, and practical coaching to improve connection and family relationships. I view challenging behaviors through a compassionate, nervous-system-informed lens and help parents build practical tools and confidence.
I also work with teens and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. My approach is grounded in curiosity, connection, and helping clients better understand the emotions, experiences, and patterns that shape their lives. I am especially interested in how past experiences influence present struggles, relationships, and ways of coping. Together, we work toward greater self-understanding, emotional healing, and more secure and connected relationships with oneself and others.
My training includes Synergetic Play Therapy, Theraplay, and the The Baffling Behavior Training Institute Parent Coach Program developed by Robyn Gobbel. I have also completed Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) Levels 1 and 2 and am currently completing Level 1 training in Internal Family Systems (IFS).
More personally, I'm married and have 3 teens/college aged children. I am always planning a trip, crafting, meeting friends for coffee and spending time with my family.
If you’re considering therapy, I’d be glad to connect by phone for a free 15-minute consultation to see if we would be a good fit.
